La revue am\u00e9ricaine \u00ab\u00a0Current Affairs\u00a0\u00bb vient de publier un article sur Jay-Z intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Jay-Z and the Pitfalls of Black Capitalism\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> (Jay-Z et les pi\u00e8ges du capitalisme noir).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cet article tombe \u00e0 pic et m\u00e9rite d’\u00eatre lu et d\u00e9battu. Parce que l\u2019id\u00e9e du capitalisme noir (Black capitalism), aujourd\u2019hui maquill\u00e9e ou remix\u00e9e sous le terme \u00abexcellence noire \u00bb (black excellence) repose sur une illusion autour des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s politiques des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s racistes. L\u2019illusion, par exemple, que les m\u00eames forces qui ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 les ghettos permettront aux millionnaires noirs de prosp\u00e9rer sans entrave. La r\u00e9alit\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine est que la r\u00e9ussite \u00e9conomique collective et noire a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 combattue et d\u00e9truite par le terrorisme am\u00e9ricain (De Black Wallstreet \u00e0 MOVE, en passant par le lynchage).<\/p>\n

Jay-Z vend cette illusion. L\u2019argument de l\u2019auteur de cet article\u00a0 est \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s \u00e7a: \u00ab Jay-Z betrays Black power for his money machine \u00bb. Et d’ailleurs, pour r\u00e9sumer la perspective de l’auteur, cet extrait me parait le plus appropri\u00e9:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0In the background of every attempt at Black excellence there stands an overseer. Black wealth accumulation does not exist in a vacuum. It exists in a white supremacist world order\u2014at the pleasure of white power. Ask any freedman who set out with the same \u201ccommunity development through Black excellence\u201d program and was forced to give up their land at the point of Jim Crow\u2019s gun. Ask the Black grocers Will Stewart, Tommie Moss, and Calvin McDowell of the People\u2019s Grocery in Memphis in 1892, when a local white man decided he would no longer tolerate market competition from \u201cblacks,\u201d brought in the police, and had them jailed. A lynch mob would break them out and shoot them to death in a railway yard days later. Ask Black Wall Street how the dreams of economic self-determination from within white supremacy panned out. How it felt when the bombs came from the sky. You can, for that matter, ask MOVE in Philadelphia too. Ask those still mourning the site of their foreclosed-upon homes, the redlined, those split open by freeways. Ask the homeowners who lose half their property\u2019s value when they come out of the closet as Black. This is not a country. It is a colonial society. As a seeker of racial justice here, you are no better off than the greyhounds they race around the track. You will never catch the mechanical rabbit. \u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n
